The 'sanuk' in Chiang Mai is basically located in 3 different areas on the same stretch of road (Ratchadamnoen Road and Thapae Road): Thapae Gate area, the Star six area on Loi Kroh Road, and the Night Bazaar area. These 3 areas are basically located on a 2 km stretch of road.

Thapae Gate Area
There are many beer bars in this area. Most of these are located along Moonmuang Road near the Thapae Gate wall, especially in the Bar Beer Centre on Moonmuang Road opposite Spotlight a go-go. These beer bars are just like what you get in Pattaya and Bangkok.

Star Six Area
There is Star Six a-go-go on Loi Kroh Road, towards the south-east of the Thapae Gate area, near the Imperial Mai Ping hotel. There is also a beer bar centre in this area next to Star Six.

Night Bazaar Area
There are some beer bars in the Night Bazaar area, next to the Chiang Inn hotel. Also known as Chiang Mai Entertainment Plaza, it is very close to the McDonald's in the night bazaar area. Just walk across the street and walk up the one-way street. It will be about 1 block on your left hand side. There you will find about 15 outdoor bars around a Thai boxing ring. At night they hold kick boxing matches along with other shows. The girls in these bars are not much to write home about and don't bother coming early, as they really don't start setting up much before six.
